Airport Transportation

A variety of transportation options are available for people traveling between Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories and Lantau Island: train, bus, ferry and taxi services.

The Airport Express Line (AEL), operated by MTR, provides a swift link between Hong Kong International Airport and the heart of Hong Kong. It is one of the few dedicated airport railways in the world, covering the 35.3km journey between the Hong Kong International Airport and Central in just 24 minutes. Each of the Airport Express stations has been designed to the highest standards, offering passengers world-class airport style facilities, such as In-town Check-in, Airport Express Shuttle Bus services and many other value-added facilities. The one-way adult fare from Airport Station to Hong Kong Station is HK$100, HK$90 to Kowloon Station and HK$60 to Tsing Yi Station. The return journey within the same day is free for Octopus Card and Same Day Return ticket holders (except journey between Airport and AsiaWorld-Expo stations). Trains run every 12 minutes from 5:50am to 1:15am daily.

A free Airport Express Shuttle Bus service (every 12 – 20 minutes) takes Airport Express passengers to and from major hotels, railway interchanges and the Hong Kong and Kowloon Stations.

Widely accepted by all major transportation services in Hong Kong, the 3-day Airport Express Travel Pass will be your ideal choice. The HK$220-card entitles passenger to one Airport Express single journey and 3-day unlimited Mass Transit Railway (MTR) rides (except Airport Express, East Rail Line First Class, Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations) and the HK$300-card entitles passenger to two Airport Express single journey and 3-day unlimited Mass Transit Railway (MTR) rides (except on the Airport Express Line). Passengers can also enjoy the free Airport Express Shuttle Bus service when they take the Airport Express train. The card can be kept as souvenir or can be returned for a refund on remaining usable value plus a HK$50 deposit.

There are more than 30 franchised bus routes from the airport, including eleven Airbus services that have fewer stops than conventional buses. Airbus fares range between HK$15 and HK$45. Taxis to almost anywhere in Hong Kong are readily available from the taxi pick-up area. A typical journey from the airport to Central costs about HK$280; and about HK$225 to Tsim Sha Tsui (including the necessary bridge and tunnel fees).
